THIRD YEAR UNDERGRADUATE
Angelica Nguyen-Tran—Frank Leva Memorial Award

About the Award

Frank Leva Memorial Award:
Award for an undergraduate student enrolled full time in the Department of Architectural Science.

This project explores the balance between forestry and urban life, creating two contrasting worlds within the same city. The forest area has houses tucked into the earth, blending into the landscape like they have grown there naturally, while the urban area is full of structures that rise upward, contrasting with the rooted nature of the forest.

As the land slopes down, these forest buildings gradually peek out, revealing themselves from the hillside; their forms embedded into the earth, not just standing on a foundation. Through these section cuts, you can see how each building type interacts with the land, one merging with it, the other rising firmly from it, and overall showing the unique relationship each has with its surroundings.
