COOPER HOLLETT & ILSA KHAN
The Passageway Through Space & Time

A Passage, in its exact definition is the act or process of moving through, under, over, or past something on the way from one place to another. Queen Street West is a passage where people are constantly moving through it to get to their destinations as well as moving to and from places within Parkdale as a larger site. This IDEA Exchange considers these passages and explores them literally with connections to spaces to the indoor, outdoor and the street, as well as the passage in its conceptual sense of moving under and over through within its spatial qualities. A passage here defines many spaces, a hallway, stairs, a courtyard, a bridge and even an alley. When thinking of passages in a library, what comes to mind is the space between the shelves and the passage it creates of experiencing and exploring the books as you walk through the library. The goal here is to create that connection to the public via a passage that allows Parkdale and other visitors to use the IDEA Exchange as a space for its program by going through the most important spaces.
