FOURTH YEAR UNDERGRADUATE
Jana Stojanovska—Hanscomb Award

About the Award

Hanscomb Award:
For the student with the best average in ASC 522 and ASC 622.

Construction Documentation
The Construction Documentation course required an in-depth understanding of the design and construction documentation systems that are critical in the Architecture, Engineering, and Construction industry. In this course, I worked with my colleagues, Cesar Perfetti, Muhammad Ghaffar Ghaffar, Jake Kroft, and Luke De Bartolo, to create a complete set of construction drawings for a third-year studio project, Bloor Collegiate. This project involved transforming the initial design concept into a detailed set of construction documents. This project not only improved our technical skills but also deepened our understanding of how design concepts are translated into detailed, executable plans. I would like to express my sincere thanks to my group members for their collaboration and amazing work throughout the project.

Project Economics
In the Project Economics course, Luke De Bartolo and I worked on a data-driven design project focused on analyzing lifecycle and energy costs. Our project explored multiple massing iterations using different materials and configurations to assess the long-term cost and energy implications of each design. Our approach involved analyzing the long-term costs associated with each design, including construction, maintenance, and operational expenses, as well as evaluating how different materials and design choices could influence energy consumption over the building’s lifetime. By using cost estimation tools and sustainability models, we were able to identify the most cost-effective and energy-efficient options. This allowed us to propose design solutions that balanced performance, sustainability, and cost.

In Gratitude
I am deeply honored and grateful to receive the Hanscomb Award for Academic Excellence. This recognition reflects not only my personal efforts but also the collective dedication and hard work of my group members. The projects in both ASC 522 (Construction Documentation) and ASC 622 (Project Economics) would not have been possible without the collaboration, insights, and support of my team. I extend my sincere gratitude to all who have contributed to my academic journey and to this achievement.
