Advanced Architecture Studio - Cultural Explorations: Toronto Museum of Architecture
This option studio follows the design of a museum for architecture, with a focus on what Canadian architecture could be and should be in the context of the Toronto urban core. The site for this project is located at the intersection of Gerrard St. and Jarvis St.
With the rapid gentrification of East Toronto, the density of the urban fabric has been taken over by condos and the focus of contemporary architecture shifts into the urban core. This museum is a response to the current condo proposal on site, towering 30 storeys. Exterior perspectives into the exhibitions allows for a pavilion experience on the ground plane, echoing inclusivity through views. The interventions on the existing heritage houses are minimal and continues the footprint it has created that remains timeless throughout Toronto's history.
