FOURTH YEAR UNDERGRADUATE
Mahin Haynes—Sepp Hannikainen Memorial Award

About the Award

Sepp Hannikainen Memorial Award:
For an undergraduate student who is currently enrolled full-time in the 3rd or 4th year of the Bachelor of Architectural Science degree program.

I am extremely thankful and grateful for the leadership opportunities I took on campus. Not only because they allowed me to flourish and work on my skills in leading and managing projects, but because they allowed me to befriend such amazing people in this ugly concrete building.

AIAS was a huge part of my time here at DAS. I remember making crappy graphics in first year that looked like corporate memphis art.  But I never would have gotten better at graphics if I never took that first scary jump. The following year I became the vice president. I truly didn’t know what I was doing, but I was so glad Nicole Gabriele was there to lead me. I’m very grateful for Nicole, such an amazing italian.

The following year I became co-president with my friend Dana Kim. We managed to start several  very successful programs, such as DAS connections, which connected students with industry professionals. I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to learn and execute such programs with such a strong team.

Currently, I’m piloting a sustainable construction startup that is being incubated by the Innovation Boost Zone here at TMU. I am incredibly grateful for the friends and mentors I made at the IBZ, and the leadership and resources that they provided me in this journey.

I am grateful for all the friends I’ve made along the way in this program.
