FOURTH YEAR UNDERGRADUATE
Sidra Homam—Sepp Hannikainen Memorial Award

About the Award

Sepp Hannikainen Memorial Award:
For an undergraduate student who is currently enrolled full-time in the 3rd or 4th year of the Bachelor of Architectural Science degree program.

My academic journey in the Department of Architectural Science (DAS) has been one defined by both challenges and growth. Through my experiences, I’ve come to realize that academic excellence extends beyond personal achievements, it’s also about contributions to community involvement and initiatives. This understanding has motivated me to extend my learning beyond coursework, immersing myself in leadership roles and community initiatives that reflect my deep commitment to DAS. As an active member of the DAS community, I’ve embraced opportunities to contribute to the growth of the program and enhance the student experience. My involvement with the Architecture Course Union (ACU) has been a focal part of this journey allowing me to work closely with various leadership and community roles within the department including Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Justice (EDIJ), the Mentorship Program, and representing students in departmental and curricular affairs. I began as the Graphic Design and PR Lead, where I focused on elevating our social media presence and expanding student engagement. My dedication and leadership was recognized, and I was honored to be elected President of the ACU. In this role, I have taken greater strides in fostering student involvement with ACU. Facilitating meaningful student-professor engagement activities, academic support and organized industry-related events throughout the year. I believe that excellence is cultivated through a balance of academic achievement and extracurricular involvement. By engaging in leadership and mentorship roles, collaborative projects, and community-building initiatives, I aim to create spaces where both current and future students can thrive and actively participate in their learning journey. My experiences have shaped me into a dependable and passionate contributor to the DAS community, and I am committed to continuing this work to support the growth of our program.
