Floating Community

Emma van der Staay

Day 53: It has been almost 2 months since our city flooded, the city of Rotterdam in the Netherlands. A country that has seized to exist when the great flood broke through the dikes. We miss our city and the homes where we lived, loved and worked together. Together we are here now, day after day, surrounded by water. Thank the people, we managed to bring some of the crops that can feed us today. Today I’m cooking the food that the others, my comrades, have harvested from our little ‘land’. Others are preparing the table where we will be having dinner. Together, always together. We don’t have much but we have each other and that is what matters. Where do we belong? Where are we going?
